Visiting Oradour-sur-Glane from Limoges: planning your visit

A visit to Oradour-sur-Glane calls for time and thoughtful preparation. The martyr village preserves the traces of the massacre of 10 June 1944. It is a place of remembrance and reflection. We suggest setting aside a distinct part of your stay in Haute-Vienne, rather than treating it as a brief stop between activities.

Check visitor arrangements before travelling

As of 30 October 2026, the Memorial Centre's official website states that its building and exhibitions are closed for renovation. Guided visits of the martyr village, alongside educational and documentary activities, continue to be offered. Arrangements may change during the works, so check official information shortly before your journey.

The oradour.org website now redirects to the Memorial Centre's pages on Visit Limousin. Use these pages to prepare your visit and contact the team if needed. Do not assume that an old timetable or visitor route is still valid.

Allow time to experience the site respectfully

Leave enough time to read, listen and pause. When travelling with children, prepare the conversation beforehand and ask the Memorial Centre about educational questions. Groups should confirm reception arrangements and any guided visit directly with the site.

Staying in Limoges can help separate travel time from the visit itself. Choose your departure time around your confirmed visit and traffic conditions on the day. We do not promise a fixed journey time, which depends on the route and traffic.

Stay in Limoges Nord

greet hotel Limoges Nord is at 42 rue Frédéric Bastiat, 87280 Limoges, near A20 exit 29. The hotel has 72 rooms, a free 68-space car park, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Reception is staffed around the clock, including by a night receptionist.

Connecting rooms for families are available on request and subject to availability. Coaches can use the hotel car park. Groups should include dates, party size and requirements in their quote request. The hotel does not organise visits to Oradour: bookings and access conditions for the memorial site must be arranged separately.

Arrange accommodation and meals

Check individual room availability on ALL Accor. Déguste, the hotel's restaurant, opens Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 13:30 and from 19:00 to 21:00, and is closed at weekends. For a group meal, send your request in advance so the team can respond according to availability.
